Security & Prohibited Items
For the safety and security of all visitors, airport-style security screening is required before boarding all Statue City Cruises ferries to Liberty Island and Ellis Island.
All guests and personal belongings are subject to inspection prior to boarding. Visitors entering the Statue of Liberty Monument (Pedestal or Crown) will undergo an additional security screening before entry.
ⓘ To help make the screening process as efficient as possible, we recommend traveling light and reviewing the prohibited items below before your visit.

- Battery Park, New York
- Liberty State Park, New Jersey
ⓘ Visitors with Pedestal or Crown tickets will complete a second security screening on Liberty Island before entering the monument.
Prohibited Items
The following items are not permitted through security screening or aboard Statue City Cruises vessels:
- Firearms and ammunition
- Explosives or flammable materials
- Knives and sharp objects (including tools)
- Pepper spray or mace
- Drones
- Scooters, skateboards, hoverboards, and other personal mobility devices (except approved accessibility devices)
- Tripods intended for commercial photography
- Glass containers
- Alcoholic beverages
- Illegal substances
- Any item determined by security personnel to present a safety concern
All prohibited items surrendered during security screening will be confiscated and will not be returned.
Bringing Bags
Backpacks, purses, diaper bags, strollers, and umbrellas are permitted aboard the ferry and while visiting Liberty Island and Ellis Island.
However, visitors entering the Statue of Liberty Monument with Pedestal or Crown tickets must store the following items in lockers before entering the monument:
- Backpacks
- Food and beverages
- Strollers
- Large umbrellas
Only small personal items are permitted beyond the monument's secondary security screening.
Visitors climbing to the Crown may carry only a:
- Mobile phone
- Camera
- Admission ticket
- Water in a clear plastic bottle
- Medication
All other belongings must be stored in the lockers provided on Liberty Island.
Lockers
Locker facilities are available only on Liberty Island for visitors entering the Pedestal or Crown.
Please note:
- Lockers are not available at Battery Park or Liberty State Park.
- Lockers require a 25¢ deposit (quarters only).
- Change machines are available nearby.
- Lockers are located adjacent to the monument's secondary security screening entrance.
