Once on Liberty Island, National Park Service Rangers are available throughout the grounds and museums to answer questions, share stories, and help bring the history of the Statue of Liberty to life. Free Ranger-Led Tours are offered daily on Liberty Island. Visit the information desk upon arrival for tour schedules and sign-up details.

Why Visit the Pedestal?

Step inside the monument and experience details of the Statue of Liberty that most visitors never see. As you ascend to the Pedestal Observation Deck, you'll enjoy up-close views of Lady Liberty's robes, tablet, and iconic features from a unique vantage point beneath the monument.


The Pedestal Observation Deck, located approximately 10 stories above ground level, allows visitors to walk completely around the Statue for 360-degree views of New York Harbor, the Manhattan skyline, Liberty Island, and beyond. On your descent, you'll also enjoy a rare view of Fort Wood, the historic star-shaped foundation beneath the monument.

Know Before You Visit the Pedestal

A Pedestal Reserve ticket includes access to the interior of the Statue of Liberty’s base. To help you make the most of your visit, please review the important details below before arriving.



Security

  • All visitors must pass through airport-grade security screening before boarding the ferry and again before entering the Statue of Liberty National Monument.
  • Items such as bags, backpacks, food, drinks, and strollers are not permitted inside the monument. Self-service lockers are available for $0.25 near the monument entrance on Liberty Island. A quarter is required.

  • All items must be retrieved after your visit to the Pedestal.
  • The National Park Service is not responsible for valuables placed in lockers.
  • Lockers are NOT available at the security screening facilities at Battery Park or Liberty State Park. Suitcases, carry-on luggage, and other large parcels will not be permitted on the ferry systems or at Liberty and Ellis Islands.
  • Prohibited items include drones, scooters, skateboards, firearms, explosives or flammables, knives or sharp objects, pepper spray, mace, and all markers (permanent or erasable). Please visit NPS Security and Standards for a full list of prohibited items.


Ticket Timing

  • The time printed on your ticket indicates when you should join the queue to enter the security screening facility, NOT a specific departure or time you will enter the Pedestal.
  • Priority entry of 2PM or later will not allow enough time to visit Ellis Island. Please plan your visit accordingly.
