Why Was the Statue of Liberty Built?

The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the people of France to the United States, celebrating the enduring friendship between the two nations and America's commitment to liberty and democracy.

French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi designed the monument, while engineer Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel—best known for designing the Eiffel Tower—created the innovative iron framework that supports the Statue from within.

Completed in France in 1884, the Statue was carefully disassembled into more than 350 pieces, shipped across the Atlantic aboard the French naval vessel Isère, and reassembled on Liberty Island before being dedicated on October 28, 1886.

Os visitantes que entram no interior do Monumento da Estátua da Liberdade passam por uma inspeção de segurança adicional. Observe que as filas de espera da segurança podem ser longas para garantir a segurança dos visitantes e do monumento.
Mochilas, carrinhos de bebê e guarda-chuvas grandes são permitidos nos barcos e ilhas. Visitantes com ingressos para o Crown ou Pedestal devem guardar esses itens em armários, convenientemente localizados próximos à área de inspeção secundária antes de entrar no Pedestal ou no Crown.
Não há guarda-volumes disponíveis nos pontos de embarque de Nova York e Nova Jersey.
É permitido o consumo de alimentos e bebidas, exceto água em garrafa plástica transparente (garrafas de metal e vidro são proibidas), dentro da Estátua da Liberdade.
Itens proibidos incluem drones, patinetes, skates, armas de fogo, explosivos ou materiais inflamáveis, facas ou objetos cortantes (incluindo ferramentas), spray de pimenta, gás lacrimogêneo e todos os tipos de marcadores (permanentes ou apagáveis). Why Is Ellis Island So Important?

Just across the harbor from Liberty Island, Ellis Island served as America's busiest immigration station from 1892 to 1954.

More than 12 million immigrants passed through its halls in search of opportunity and a new beginning. Today, it's estimated that nearly 40% of Americans can trace at least one ancestor to Ellis Island.

As you walk through the beautifully restored Great Hall and museum exhibits, you'll experience the stories, challenges, and triumphs of the people who helped build America.
